Clearstep

What is Clearstep?

The Clearstep system is a revolutionary treatment which produces a beautiful straight smile by using invisible devices, including clear aligners. The aligners are used alongside other invisible devices, which make up the Clearstep orthodontic system. The additional devices mean that the treatment is more versatile than other invisible aligner methods and a greater range of orthodontic problems can therefore be treated.

How does Clearstep work?

Clearstep in Scotland works by gradually moving the teeth into the desired position. The aligners (also known as positioners) are designed to move the teeth into the correct position over the course of time, with each one being worn for around two weeks and then replaced with the next one in the series. The positioners are usually the predominant form of treatment but other devices may also be used, but these are also invisible so nobody else will be able to see that you are wearing braces.

Stages of treatment

Clearstep in Glasgow available at our practice involves the following stages:

Stage one

During the initial consultation here at Devonshire Dental Care in Glasgow, the dentist will discuss the details of the treatment with you. They will explain how the treatment works, how much the treatment will cost and how long the treatment will take.

Stage two

If you decide to go ahead with the treatment and your dentist feels that you are a suitable candidate for the treatment, they will start to set the wheels in motion.

Stage three

To begin with, your dentist will take photographs of your teeth and create an impression of your mouth. These will be used as a template for the clear positioners and the braces will be made to fit the exact proportions of your mouth.

Stage four

Once the braces have been manufactured, they will be sent back to the dentist and the patient will start the treatment.

Stage five

You will be asked to return to see your dentist every now and again to check that the braces fit well and monitor the progress of the treatment.

What are the benefits of Clearstep?

Discreet

Clearstep has been developed to give patients the perfect smile without anybody else knowing they are wearing braces. They are a much more aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional fixed braces.

Comfort & removability

Clearstep braces are also much lighter and more comfortable than traditional braces and you can take them out, meaning you can eat and drink what you like.

Oral health

The removable quality of the braces ensures that you can brush your teeth properly, which will promote good oral health and decrease the risk of you suffering from oral health problems, such as decay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the treatment work?

The treatment works by gradually encouraging the teeth to move into the desired alignment. The clear aligners work in a similar way to traditional braces but do not involve bulky, metal brackets and wires. Each aligner is designed to encourage the teeth to move in accordance with the treatment plan. The aligners are not supposed to fit perfectly, as this would not allow space for movement.

Is the treatment painful?

To begin with, the aligners may feel tight but you should soon get used to them. If you do experience mild pain, you can take over the counter pain relief to make you feel more comfortable. The aligners are made from very light plastic, which makes them much more comfortable than traditional braces.

How long does treatment take?

Treatment time depends on the individual and how much movement is required. Less complex cases may take between 9 and 12 months, while more complex cases may take up to 18 months.

How much does treatment cost?

The cost of treatment varies according to the individual case. Typically, you should expect to pay upwards of £1990. It is advisable to discuss the cost of the treatment with your dentist during the initial consultation.

Is the treatment suitable for everyone?

The Clearstep system is a versatile treatment, which can be used to resolve a range of orthodontic problems. In most cases, the treatment will be suitable but other treatments may be more effective under certain circumstances. If this is the case, your dentist will be able to discuss other options with you.

How long do I have to wear the aligners?

It is advisable to wear the aligners for as long as possible every day. Ideally, they should be worn all day apart from when eating, drinking and brushing the teeth. Each aligner should be worn for two weeks and then replaced with the next aligner in the series.
